Omniscient Reader Editions Explained: Korean Web Novel & English Books

By Published Updated

Spoiler level: None. This guide covers publication formats and editions, not the story’s major events or ending.

The original Korean novel of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint has 551 main-story episodes. Its collected Korean edition has 23 ebook volumes. The English novels use a different volume system, and the webtoon has its own episode numbers.

All of those numbers are correct. They’re just counting different things.

The confusion usually begins when someone finishes one edition and tries to find the next installment in another.

Here’s how the Korean releases, English books, and webtoon fit together—and what to check before choosing a volume.

The Editions at a Glance

Omniscient Reader editions and what their numbering means
EditionWhat the numbers mean
Korean serialized novel551 episodes in the completed main story; additional side stories published separately afterward
Korean collected ebooks23 volumes covering the main story, with supplementary material in selected volumes
English novel booksProse translations: Volumes 1–4 released; Volumes 5–6 scheduled
English comic booksCollected webtoon adaptation: Volumes 1–12 released; Volume 13 scheduled
English WEBTOONDigital comic episodes published under the title Omniscient Reader

These are different ways of publishing or adapting the work, not five stories you need to read one after another.

English novel and comic publication status rechecked: October 27, 2026. Scheduled volumes are listed separately below and are not included in the released totals.

The Original Korean Novel Has 551 Main-Story Episodes

Written by singNsong, the original Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (전지적 독자 시점) was published as serialized Korean fiction.

The main narrative runs from episode 1 through episode 551.

That’s the number you’ll often see when readers discuss the completed original novel.

But open the Naver Series serialized listing today, and you’ll find a much larger episode total. The listing also contains side-story material published after the main narrative.

This explains something that can look contradictory at first:

The original main story is complete, while the serialized listing can still be marked as ongoing.

Those labels describe different parts of the publication.

What about the side stories?

The later side stories are additional prose material, separate from the original 551-episode main narrative.

They should not be confused with the webtoon adaptation or with the bonus material included in certain collected volumes.

If you’re following the Korean releases, finish the main story before moving into the later side-story episodes.

Status checked October 25, 2026: the Naver Series listing still displays a notice about a break after side-story Season 5 while Season 6 is prepared. It does not give a verified calendar return date. An approximate preparation period should not be turned into a promised release day.

Because the side stories have their own release history, the current total episode count is not a reliable way to describe the length of the completed main novel.

Why Does the Korean Collected Edition Have 23 Volumes?

The Korean collected edition is listed on Naver Series as 전지적 독자 시점 [단행본].

The label 단행본 refers here to a book-style collected edition. On Naver Series, this particular product consists of ebooks, not 23 physical books.

It reorganizes the 551 main-story episodes into five parts.

Korean collected ebooks by part, volume count and original episode range
PartEbook volumesOriginal episodes covered
Part 181–188
Part 24189–284
Part 34285–372
Part 45373–486
Part 52487–551
Total231–551

The volume numbering restarts within each part. That’s why you may see a label such as Part 5, Volume 2 rather than simply Volume 23.

The publisher provides an episode-by-episode volume guide on the official Naver Series collected-edition page.

For example, Part 5, Volume 2 collects episodes 517–551. You can use the official guide to identify which Korean ebook contains a particular main-story episode.

Does the collected edition include anything extra?

Yes, and this is one of the more useful details in the Korean listing.

Naver Series states that the collected ebooks include additional illustrations not present in the original serialized release.

The volume titles also identify supplementary material in specific books:

  • Part 3, Volume 4 includes a special side story.
  • Part 5, Volume 2 includes a special side story and an author’s note.

These extras belong to the collected edition. They don’t mean the 23 ebooks contain the entire later side-story serialization.

It’s also important not to assume that every chapter was rewritten for the collected edition. The official listing establishes the volume organization and additional material, but it doesn’t provide a complete comparison of textual revisions.

The English Novel Books Follow a Different Volume System

Ize Press, an imprint of Yen Press, publishes the official English collected novel under the title Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (novel).

Unlike the completed Korean main story, its English volume releases are still in progress.

As of October 27, 2026, the publisher lists English novel Volumes 1–4 as released. Two later volumes have future publication dates:

  • Volume 5: November 24, 2026.
  • Volume 6: March 30, 2027.

Those are scheduled releases, so neither should be counted among the English novel volumes already available at this check.

The publisher lists paperback and digital editions. Check the format-specific page and your retailer for current regional availability; a catalog entry does not guarantee local stock or account access.

You can check the official Yen Press novel series listing alongside the Volume 5 and Volume 6 publication details.

Does English Volume 5 equal Korean Volume 5?

No such match should be assumed.

The Korean collection has its own five-part, 23-volume structure. The English release uses a separate numbering system.

Even when two books have the same volume number, that doesn’t establish that they cover the same episodes.

If you’re moving between languages, rely on the publisher’s contents and official edition information rather than an unofficial one-to-one volume conversion.

And if you reach the latest available English novel volume, remember that the translation’s publication schedule is separate from the completion of the original Korean story.

Don’t Confuse the English Novel with the Comic Books

There’s one more distinction worth checking when shopping.

Yen Press also publishes Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint as an English comic series.

The title looks almost identical, but the format is different.

The novel books contain the translated prose originally written by singNsong.

The comic books contain the illustrated webtoon adaptation, credited to UMI for adaptation and Sleepy-C for artwork.

As of October 27, 2026, English comic Volumes 1–12 have been released. The publisher gives comic Volume 12 an October 20, 2026 publication date and schedules comic Volume 13 for January 19, 2027. Volume 13 is an upcoming comic book, not a released prose novel. The prose edition follows the separate schedule above.

You can identify the two series through their official publisher listings:

The comic is also available digitally as Omniscient Reader on WEBTOON.

A comic episode, a Korean prose episode, and an English collected novel volume are not interchangeable units. Their numbering follows different publications.

Which Edition Should You Look For?

Your next purchase or reading choice depends on what you’re trying to find.

For the original prose in English: Choose the Ize Press novel edition and follow its English volume sequence.

For the illustrated adaptation: Choose WEBTOON’s digital comic or Yen Press’s English comic books.

For the completed Korean main novel in collected form: Look for the 23-volume 전지적 독자 시점 [단행본] ebook edition.

For later Korean side stories: Check the serialized novel listing and its publication notices.

Before buying a book, check its language, format, and volume system. That small habit can save you from picking up a comic when you wanted the novel—or expecting an English volume number to match a Korean one.

If you’re new to the work itself, the Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint Hub explains the premise, the Korean meaning behind Kim Dokja’s name, and where to begin.

Edition and publication information checked: October 25, 2026. Scheduled English releases and Korean side-story plans may change. Publisher listings establish editions and dates, rather than guaranteeing access in every region.
