Tower of God: Urek Mazino Explained — What the Spin-Off Is

By Published Updated

Spoiler level: Low. This guide covers the spin-off’s premise, its place in the Tower of God world, and its publication status without revealing major story developments.

If you’ve found Tower of God: Urek Mazino on WEBTOON, the title might raise a few questions.

Is it a prequel? Does it continue the original Tower of God story? And why does the Korean edition have an ending-marked episode while the English version is still releasing chapters?

Urek Mazino is the first official Tower of God spin-off, following an earlier period in the life of one of the original series’ most powerful characters.

It’s a separate story, not another season of Bam’s journey.

There’s also a small Korean terminology detail worth understanding, particularly if you’ve seen Urek described as both a Regular and an Irregular.

What Is Tower of God: Urek Mazino About?

In the original Tower of God, readers follow Twenty-Fifth Bam as he enters a mysterious Tower and discovers the people, tests, and conflicts within it.

Urek Mazino has a very different position in that world.

He is known as an exceptionally powerful Ranker, someone whose reputation has already been established by the time readers encounter him in the main series.

The spin-off goes back to an earlier chapter of his life.

Its official synopsis introduces a younger Urek entering the Tower in pursuit of Phantaminum and facing the challenges of his climb.

Rather than following Bam’s search for Rachel, the story focuses on Urek before he became the legendary figure familiar to established readers.

That’s the main attraction of the premise: it explores the past of a character whose later reputation is already part of the Tower’s history.

The spin-off doesn’t require a detailed explanation of every mystery surrounding Urek to establish its story. His earlier climb provides its own starting point.

Is Urek Mazino a Prequel?

In one sense, yes.

The spin-off is set during an earlier period of Urek’s life, before he reached the status associated with him in the main story.

But calling it a prequel can create the wrong expectation.

Urek Mazino isn’t a new beginning for Bam’s adventure. It doesn’t retell the main webtoon’s opening or replace its first season.

Instead, it follows a different protagonist within the same fictional world.

There’s an important difference between when a story takes place and when readers are meant to discover it.

The original Tower of God began in 2010. Urek Mazino was introduced as a spin-off in 2025, after Urek had already become an established character in the larger series.

So even though the spin-off looks back into the past, that doesn’t automatically make it the best introduction to the franchise.

You can read it as an additional story without treating it as a required first chapter.

Why Did Naver Launch a Spin-Off About Urek?

Naver’s April 2025 announcement described Urek Mazino as the first official spin-off of Tower of God.

The company emphasized the opportunity to explore Urek’s previously unrevealed past, including his entry into the Tower and his pursuit of Phantaminum.

SIU also introduced the project as a chance for readers to discover another side of the Tower of God world through Urek’s earlier journey.

That tells us something about the spin-off’s purpose.

The main story has spent years building an extensive world with characters whose histories extend beyond Bam’s immediate adventures.

A separate series can explore one of those histories without requiring the main narrative to stop and explain everything about it.

This is also a useful example of how a long-running Korean webtoon can expand through character-focused storytelling.

The original comic remains the foundation, while a new publication gives an established character room for a story of his own.

You can find the publisher’s explanation in Naver’s official April 2025 announcement (Korean).

Why Is Urek Called Both a Regular and an Irregular?

This is one of the more confusing details for readers encountering the spin-off through different languages.

In its Korean announcement, Naver identifies Urek as a 비선별인원 (biseonbyeol inwon), commonly translated as Irregular.

The same announcement refers to his 선별인원 시절 (seonbyeol inwon sijeol), describing the period when he was climbing the Tower.

Meanwhile, the official English WEBTOON synopsis introduces his younger self as a Regular.

At first, those descriptions might seem contradictory.

The distinction is that they’re referring to different aspects of Urek’s background.

In Tower of God, Irregular concerns how someone entered the Tower. Regular is also used for people undergoing the climb and its tests, before reaching the status of a Ranker.

The English synopsis uses Regular to describe Urek’s earlier climbing period. Naver’s Korean announcement identifies his unusual entry into the Tower.

The official descriptions aren’t announcing that Urek’s origin has been changed for the spin-off.

For readers unfamiliar with the terminology, the simplest way to understand the premise is that the story follows Urek before he became a Ranker, while retaining his established background.

You don’t need to master every classification in the Tower to begin reading.

Is Tower of God: Urek Mazino Finished in Korean?

Publication information checked: October 16, 2026.

The Korean Naver WEBTOON listing currently contains 70 episodes.

Episode 70 was published on August 3, 2026, with the title 떠오르는 달 and the ending marker (완).

In Korean publishing, this marker indicates an ending or completion.

It’s reasonable to understand that the currently listed Korean run reaches an ending at Episode 70.

However, the series page also displays 휴재 (hyujae), meaning hiatus.

These two labels appear together on the official platform.

That means we should distinguish what the episode list confirms from what it doesn’t.

The listing confirms that the published run reaches an ending-marked 70th episode. It does not, by itself, establish whether Naver or SIU will ever publish more stories under the same title.

It also doesn’t mean the main Tower of God webtoon has concluded. The main series and the spin-off have separate publication listings.

For the latest Korean status, check the official Urek Mazino episode list.

Why Is the English WEBTOON Still Releasing Episodes?

The English edition started later than the Korean original.

Its first episodes appeared on July 28, 2025, while the Korean series had launched in April.

As of October 30, 2026, the publicly visible English WEBTOON list reaches Episode 68, dated October 26.

The page still displays a Tuesday update schedule and advertises two additional episodes only on the app. That app notice is separate from the public episode list; it does not establish that every episode is free to open.

This creates an important distinction between the two editions.

The different numbers don’t mean the Korean and English titles refer to unrelated stories.

They reflect different language releases, schedules, and access arrangements.

If you’re reading in English, the Korean edition’s episode count isn’t a reliable measure of how many chapters you can currently open for free in English.

For the latest public releases and app-access options, use the official English WEBTOON listing.

Should You Read the Main Tower of God First?

For someone completely new to the franchise, the main webtoon is the more natural introduction.

It establishes the Tower and introduces Urek’s place within the larger story.

But you don’t have to finish every available main-series episode before trying the spin-off.

There’s no official requirement to reach one particular chapter before opening Urek Mazino.

The choice depends on what you want to experience.

If you’re especially careful about discovering the Tower’s mysteries in the original publication order, spend more time with the main webtoon first.

If you’re already familiar with its world and interested in Urek, the spin-off offers another perspective.

And if you’ve only watched the anime, you may prefer to continue the main story before moving to a character-focused side story.

For specific anime-to-webtoon continuation points, see the Tower of God Reading Order Guide.

Where Can You Read Urek Mazino Officially?

You can read the spin-off through its official platforms:

Korean original: 우렉 마지노 — Naver WEBTOON

Official English edition: Tower of God: Urek Mazino — WEBTOON

Episode availability may differ between the website and app, and release schedules can change.

For the original webtoon, its anime adaptations, and other ways to explore the franchise, visit the Tower of God Hub.

Urek Mazino isn’t a missing chapter of Bam’s story. It’s a chance to see the Tower through someone whose reputation was already established long before readers learned much about his past.

And knowing where the spin-off fits makes it easier to enjoy that different perspective without confusing it with the main series.
